Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, rural Fontanelle, Iowa with full military graveside rites conducted by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357. Pastor Kevin Warner will officiate the service. The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements.  

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle. 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Richard Chapman memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Richard Ronald Chapman was born January 2, 1938. On a farm south of Fontanelle, Iowa. The son of Milton David Sr. and Audrey Nadine (Sickels) Chapman. He passed away Wednesday December 1, 2021, at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 83. 

Richard attended school and graduated from Richland High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Marvel Ann Chapman on April 17, 1965, in Creston, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Chad, Tina and Todd. 

Richard was a SP4 in the U.S. Army 1st Missile Battalion 82nd Artillery, Vicenza, Italy. Enlisting in 1960 and honorably discharged in 1963. He was an avid member of the American Legion as well. 

Richard lived in Des Moines most of his life. He worked as Computer Programmer for Preferred Risk Insurance and Farmland Insurance, retiring in 2003. He loved Golf, Hiking, backpacking in the mountains, hunting or anything outdoors. He also loved his Louis L'Amour books, Gene Autry and Will Rogers. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marvel and daughter Tina; brother, Bill Chapman, Brother, James Chapman; and brother-in-law Larry carter. 

He is survived by sons Chad Chapman of Des Moines, Todd Chapman of Des Moines; four granddaughters; brothers, Milton Chapman and wife Nancy of Creston, Stephen Chapman and wife Jean of fontanelle and John Chapman and wife Ruby of Colorado; two sisters, Alice Carter of Phoenix, Arizona and Roseann Smith and husband Ron of Washington; as well as other relatives and friends.
