Funeral Services: Will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial following in the Greenfield Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow the burial at the church.  Pastor Melinda Stonebraker will officiate the service.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.

 

Open Visitation:  Will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

 

Family Visitation:  The family will greet friends on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield.

 

Memorials:  May be directed to Cystic Fibrosis or to the Barbara Mitchell Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.

 

   Barbara Louise Mitchell was born on February 20, 1936, in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Ruby (Adamson) Hardin.  She passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 86.

 

   Barbara graduated from Greenfield High School in 1954.  On June 6, 1954, she was united in marriage to Marion Mitchell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  To this union four children were born: Cynthia, Chandra, Jeffrey and James.  She lived on the family farm east of Greenfield for 56 years.  On the farm she raised her children and helped with farming.  She always had meals for everyone including her family and hired help on the farm.  It was usually a four course meal.  Barbara worked at Mather’s Pharmacy in Greenfield for several years.  She loved her bowling of many years, embroidering, feeding the birds, painting ceramic plates in her retirement, working in her flower beds and garden. But her greatest calling was being a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma.  She was a longtime active member of the Hebron United Methodist Church and then became a member of the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Along with being a member of Red Hat Society. Marion and Barbara loved to go dancing, camping and travel on many vacations.

 

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruby Hardin; husband, Marion Mitchell; son, James Mitchell; two brothers, Ron and Bob Hardin and step-mother, Irene Hardin.

 

   She is survived by her two daughters, Cyndi Lorenzen and husband Monte of Green Valley, AZ and Chandra McCann and husband Ron of Greenfield; son, Jeffrey Mitchell and wife Kelly of Greenfield; daughter-in-law, Denna Mitchell of Greenfield; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Stewart and husband Marvin of Bondurant and Linda Griffith and husband Dean of Bridgewater; two sisters-in-law, Rowena Hardin of Greenfield and Beverly Hardin of Earlville, Illinois; numerous other extended family and friends.
