Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Ehm was born October 5, 1931, in Pocahontas County, Iowa, the daughter of Kirk and Helen Brown. She passed away on Friday, June 23, 2017, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 85.

Betty graduated from Arispe High School in 1949. On August 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to George Ehm at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton, Iowa. To this union seven children were born: Stephen, Paul, Rose, John, Mary, Helen and Karen.

Betty attended Creston College where she received her teaching certificate. While attending college, she was recruited as a pitcher for the college’s softball team (the Eagles). Betty’s first teaching job was in the Ellston School, after married she taught at Zion School & completed her teaching career at Richland School in 1959. After her first child was born she became a full time housewife and mother. She enjoyed crocheting, tatting, gardening, cooking, farming and helping others. She enjoyed sharing the produce from her garden and fruit trees with friends and family. She had an amazing love for others that she displayed to many, many people every day of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Lloyd.

She is survived by her her husband, George Ehm of Greenfield; children, Stephen Ehm of Greenfield, Paul Ehm of Greenfield, Rose Riggs of Norwalk, John Ehm and wife Theresa of Oceanside, California, Mary Eason of Mt. Ayr, Helen Ehm of Oskaloosa, Karen Hanten and husband Randy of Clive, Iowa; one brother, Gene Brown of Des Moines; two sisters, EvaMae Shannon and husband Charlie of Osceola and Pat Anderson and husband Jim of Murray; 7 grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
