Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery.  

Open Visitation: Will be held on Wednesday, December 17th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends at the Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. 

Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle. 

Betty Ann Hazen was born December 26, 1925, the daughter of Iris Vernon and Gladys Viola (Laughlin) Steel in Adair County, Iowa. She passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 88.

In 1937, the family moved to Orient continuing her schooling. On August 17, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clair Edwards of Fontanelle. To this union four children were born: Mary Ann, Kevin, Kalvin and Mark. She later married Ralph “Bub” Means of Fontanelle at the Orient Congregational Church. After his death she married Lee Hazen. She made her home at the Greenfield Senior Citizen apartments.

Betty worked for the Iowa State Extension as a home health aide for many years. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, playing cards and camping at the Iowa State Fair for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair Edwards; two sisters, Marie Fine and Mildred Gray; son-in-law, Arnie Berry; and husband, Bub Means.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Berry of Lincoln, Nebraska; three sons, Kevin Edwards (Connie) of Greenfield, Kalvin Edwards (Lisa) of Fontanelle and Mark Edwards of Fontanelle; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Bill Steel (Carol) of Carlisle, Iowa; sister, Barb Batton of Cape Canaveral, Florida; other relatives and friends.
