Betty Lane

Funeral Services: Will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Eric Schubert will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held following the committal services at the church.  

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, October 24th, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: To the Greenfield United Methodist Church. 

Betty Jean Lane was born October 20, 1928, the daughter of Ervin and Carrie (Zellweger) Lane in Adair County, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 86.

Betty was raised and attended country school in Adair County. She graduated from Greenfield High School and received her BA from University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.

Betty taught elementary school for many years. She loved to travel and enjoyed teaching in several different states including California, Wyoming, Utah and Iowa. She also enjoyed reading and oil painting.

Later in life Betty moved back to Iowa living with her parents, then several years in Adams County and Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Norma Geesman; and brother, Don Lane.

She is survived by her two sisters, Carole Young of Allen, Texas and Ramona Duskin of Portland, Oregon; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
