William David Mains was born on June 22, 1944, the son of William (Bing) Edmund and Ruth Eloise (Mitchell) Mains in Dexter, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at his home at the age of 81.
Bill grew up in rural Menlo and graduated from Menlo High School in 1963. On June 28, 1964, he married the love of his life, Barbara Kesler, in Guthrie Center, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Bryan, Bradley, and Brenda.
He was a welder/fabricator for most of his career and worked for Majona Corporation in Waukee and later in Osceola until his retirement. He loved reading and could be found with a Kindle in hand most of the time. He enjoyed golfing, watching football, canning his own tomato juice, tinkering with anything he could, collecting tractors of all sizes, and, recently, getting into online auctions, where he found many treasures to add to his collections.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Bradley Mains, and two brothers, Gary and Kenny Mains.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barb Mains; son, Bryan Mains (Loura) of Redfield; daughter, Brenda Meisenheimer (Jerry) of Greenfield; grandchildren, Chrystian (Breanne) Meisenheimer of West Des Moines, Mackenzie (Blake), Trevor, Grant, Taylor and Evan Meisenheimer all of Greenfield; two sisters, Marilyn Jones (Paul) of Menlo and Patsy Evans (Neil) of Earlham; three brothers, Chuck Mains (Cindy) of Redfield, Kevin Mains of Redfield and Doug Mains of Dexter; and many other relatives and friends.
