Frances “Christine” Moffett passed away on June 15, 2026, at the age of 83, in Des Moines Iowa. Christine moved to Creston Iowa two years ago to be closer to her daughter after losing her husband Jerry.

Christine was born in Fargo North Dakota and lived on a farm just west of there in a tiny town called Absaraka. The family moved to Palmdale California where she finished high school. After high school she met Robert Wood in 1964, and their union produced two children, Sheila Christine Wood (Clausen) and Robert Wayne Wood. Over the years, the “Wood family” moved from California, then onto Oregon and eventually Texas.

In 1987, Christine moved from Texas back to Palmdale California. Christine met the love of her life, Jerry, on a blind date, and the two were inseparable. They were married on September 30, 1988, and were married for 35 years until Jerry’s passing. This blended family has a total of five children: Sheila, Robert, Mike, Danny, and Jeffrey. There are nine grandchildren (Sarah, Caitlin, Hailey, Brooklyn, Cameron, Jeremy, Steven, Johnathan, and Kayla,) and nine great-grandchildren (Henry, Abigail, Malia, Patrick, Xavier, Roxie, Hunter, Nixon and Braxson).

During her time in sunny California, Christine worked for the LA County Welfare Department and then moved to the LA County Sheriff’s Department as a civilian employee. Both Christine and Jerry retired in 2002.

Christine had many talents and hobbies and loved the outdoors! She loved downhill skiing, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, the occasional motorcycle ride with her son Robert and road trips and hot air balloon rides with her daughter Sheila. She was artist and loved to paint. She painted and framed many of her pictures and loved to get creative and paint on old saws, eggs, ceramics and Christmas ornaments. She loved to crochet and quilt. In California, she was part of the Prayers and Squares organization where their quilts and prayer squares would be sent to those in need. After her move to Creston, she joined the quilting group at Salem Lutheran church and continued her love of quilting.

Christine was courageous and fearless in everything she did. She was tiny in stature but truly larger than life.

Christine is survived by her brothers Rodney Sheldon, Dale Sheldon (Margaret), her daughter Sheila Wood Clausen (Daniel), and sons Robert Wood (Carrianne), Mike Moffett (Lauri), Danny Moffett (Tammy), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Wayne Sheldon and son Jeffrey.
