Charles Leslie (Chuck) Stanley passed away on April 9, 2026 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital.

Chuck was born in Dallas County on October 30, 1937 to Ralph and Delma Harlan Stanley. He attended a rural country school prior to attending Earlham Schools, where he graduated in 1956.

Chuck enlisted in the Army November 1956 and served until 1959 when he was honorably discharged. He was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, where he met his future wife Gertrude, (Trudy), Kline. She came to the United States following Chuck’s discharge and they were married in Earlham, IA.

Chuck and Trudy moved to Portland, Oregon where Chuck worked at Borden Chemical, producers of various glue products, including Elmer’s glue. A son, Larry Leslie was born in 1962. Chuck and Trudy divorced in the early 1980s.

Chuck and Trudy also ran a dance business, giving lessons and eventually owning their own ballroom, Melodie Lane, for 14 years. Chuck hired professional bands and developed many friendships. One of his favorites was Jack Morgan, of the Russ Morgan Orchestra. They remained close friends. He was a life member of The Early Ford V8 Club of America.

In 1996 Chuck asked a lady visiting from Colorado named Beck, to dance. His infectious smile and good looks made saying anything but “yes” impossible. Beck moved to Oregon, and upon Chuck’s retirement, they moved to Iowa. They were married on Valentine’s Day 1999. The Greenfield community became their home. So many friendships were, and still are, treasured.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Barbara Throckmorton, Margaret Jones, and Martha Rees and brother Ralph (Booner) Stanley.

Chuck is survived by wife Beck, of the home; son Larry Stanley of Gresham, OR; stepson Dr. Robert Pippin (Holly) of Weatherford, OK; Grandson Jake Stanley of Vancouver, WA; Granddaughters Brittney Stanley of Wilsonville, OR and Olivia Stanley of Gresham, OR. Brother Jim Stanley (Kathy), and sister Helen Gilbert. Many nieces, nephews and dear friends will also remain to remember Chuck’s laugh, beautiful smile and friendliness.
