Connie Pettinger, 80, of Anita

Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, rural Cumberland with burial in the St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will be at the church hall following the burial. The Lamb Funeral Home in Massena is in charge of the professional arrangements. Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Cumberland Community Building in Cumberland from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Rosary: Will be held at 4:15 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Cumberland Community Building.

Memorials: May be directed to the Connie Pettinger Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.

Connie Marie (Boswell) Pettinger passed away on April 25, 2025. Connie was born in Creston, IA on August 15th, 1944, to Bill and Teresa (Eblen) Boswell. She was the oldest of 12 children. After graduating from Corning high school, she went to Ottumwa Heights College where she earned her Associate’s Degree. She moved to Omaha and worked for two years as an Executive Administrator at the Bank of Omaha. Connie married Bernard Pettinger on June 5th, 1965. They owned and operated a family farm just north of Cumberland for 30 years, where they raised six children. In 1995, they sold the farm and moved to Fort Collins, CO, where they owned and operated a Real Estate and Brokerage firm. In 1997, they moved back to Iowa to be closer to family. Shortly after arriving in Iowa, Connie enrolled at Iowa State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Journalism. After graduation, Connie and Bernard moved to Des Moines, IA. Connie wrote articles for Wallace’s Farmer magazine, as well as worked for Nationwide Insurance as an Underwriter in their Agriculture Division until retiring in 2013. After retirement, Connie and Bernard moved to an acreage north of Anita, IA.

Connie was involved in several clubs throughout her life. She was a member of the Catholic Church Altar Society, 4-H Club Leader, PEO member, Board member for the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence – Southwest Iowa Chapter and was a long-standing member of the B&D (bottle and diaper) Club, which continued long past the time her children were young.

She enjoyed gardening, photography, and writing. She also looked forward to spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as her “sister’s weekends” and coffee with her brothers and sisters-in-law.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her son, David.

She is survived by her husband and five children Paul Pettinger (Matt Hiatt); Mark Pettinger (Kathy); Kathy Dobill (Dan); Kim Clinton (Matthew) and Amy Pettinger (Clint Davis); 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings Dale (Janet) Boswell; John (Shirley) Boswell; Tom Boswell; Katie (John) Brennan; Jenny (Dave) Sinning; Barb (Bob) Wimmer; Patty (Tony) Mack; Fred (Bonnie) Boswell; Glen (Rhonda) Boswell; Teresa (Jeff) Cullen; Julie Boswell; other relatives and friends.
