Funeral Services: Will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Melinda Stonebraker will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Open Visitation Without the Family Present: Will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield.
Memorials: To the Dean Shike Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Phillip Dean Shike was born in Adair County, Iowa, on September 23, 1942, the son of Myron Ray and Elizabeth (Wolfe) Shike. He passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 79.
Dean lived his entire life in Adair County with the exception of the six months he spent in the Army Reserve in Fort Lewis, Seattle, Washington. He attended country grade school and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1960. On June 22, 1963, he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Woodard in the Church of Christ in Des Moines, Iowa.
Dean worked at the United Grocery Store in the meat department. Then managed the Super Value store in Stuart for Carl Carlson. He worked for Schildberg’s for a time and then managed a tavern for Frank Maynes. He then found his love of farming. He had a love for the land and was a successful farmer and farmed until his health forced him to quit. He loved machinery and especially shopping for new equipment. He enjoyed taking motor cycle trips, farm pets, going for coffee every morning with the guys and taking rides in his side by side around the farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Lewis Shike.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Shike of Greenfield; sisters-in-law, Bev Shike, Donna Poil, Deleth Gonseth and Doris McClure; nephew, David Shike (Jami), nieces, Brenda Wallace (Richard) and Vickie Wright (Lee); great nephews, Ross Wright (Jessica), Cole Shike, and Brycen Wallace; great nieces, Morgan Antisdel (Ryan) and Alexis Shike; five great great nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
