Funeral Services: Will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield with burial in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rural Cumberland, Iowa. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following services at the church, prior to burial. The Rev. Dr. Keith Schweitzer will officiate the service.   

Visitation: Will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Memorials: To the Don Brahms memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Donald John Brahms was born December 22, 1928, the son of George and Margaret (Eilts) Brahms northeast of Cumberland, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, December 1, 2014, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 85.

Don attended country school at Whittier #1 until entering and graduating from Cumberland High School in 1946. He was confirmed at the Wiota Lutheran Church and later joined the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where he held different offices and taught Sunday school. On May 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Woods. To this union four sons were born: David, Michael, Donald and Richard. Don was very active in the National Farmers Organization. He had served on the Cass County Zoning Board for four years. On November 10, 1984, he was united in marriage to Jeanette (Jan) Jameson. He retired from farming in 1987. He always said he never had a job because he truly loved farming.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ruth Brahms; and wife Joan Brahms in 1981.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Brahms of Greenfield; five sons, David Brahms (Charlotte) of Cumberland, Michael Brahms (Donna Sue) of Griswold, Donald Brahms of Anita, Richard Brahms (Teresa) of Currie, N.C. and Nick Jameson (Julie) of Glenwood; 8 grandchildren, Shawn Brahms (Melodee), Steven Brahms (Diane), Mitchell Brahms (Abbie), Melinda Mothershead (Cody), Janessa Brahms, Taylor Jameson, Trent Jameson and Sam Jameson; 11 great grandchildren, JoAnn Brahms, Jack Brahms, Zane Brahms, Nash Brahms, Colton Brahms, Michael Helton, Vincent Helton, Malea Brahms, Trinatie Mothershead, Katalina Mothershead and Harmanie Mothershead; brother & sister-in-law, Jim Honold (Carole) of Coon Rapids; other relatives and many friends.

The family of Don Brahms wishes to express their gratitude for all acts of kindness shown to them in their time of sorrow and invites you to join them for a luncheon at the church immediately following the services at the church.
