Donald (Donny) Elwood Sickles was born March 21, 1953, son of Carl and Donald and Evelyn Mae (Tickner) Sickles at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 68.

Donny grew up in Adair County on farms north and south of Fontanelle and in 1969 they moved into Fontanelle. He attended country school for one year before going to Bridgewater-Fontanelle where he graduated in May of 1972. After high school he went to work for Iowa Star Silos building cement silos and later worked with G.E. Homan at KJA Gutter and Siding.

Donny was baptized at the Congregational Church in Fontanelle. Donny loved watching Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. He also liked to cook. At least six years in a row in March, Donny would cook wild rabbits for his annual wabbit feed at the Fontanelle Bar and Grill. In January of 2020, Donny went in the nursing home. After he was there awhile he started going and helping Tammy Eigenheer in the kitchen on Wednesday afternoon making cakes, pies and desserts for the next day. He made a great Spanish rice and started making it there for the residents so they decided to put it on the menu.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and step-father, Tom Purdy.

Donny is survived by seven brothers and two sisters, Denny (Debra) Sickles, Dale Sickles, David (Cindy) Sickles, Judy Sickles all of Fontanelle, Doug Sickles (Kathy Leander) of Lewis, Iowa, Joyce Nelson, Duane Sickles, Dallas (Sarah) Sickles and Dean Sickles (Denise Huddleson) of Fontanelle; many nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
