Donald Winter, 93, of Fontanelle

Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery.  Full military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fontanelle American Legion Carlson Post No. 247.  A luncheon will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle following the burial.   The Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com. 

Open Visitation:  Will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation:  Will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. 

Memorials:  To the Donald Winter Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Donald Dean Winter was born on December 12, 1930, the son of Henry George and Beulah (Armstrong) Winter.  He passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa, at the age of 93.
Donald attended school in Fontanelle and graduated from high school in 1949.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fontanelle and was baptized in 1959.  He was an Army Veteran.  In 1954, he began his career with United Telephone Company in Greenfield, Iowa and retired in 1990 with a total of 36 years of service.  

On September 5, 1972, he was united in marriage to Frances Templeman Schwanebeck.  They made their home in Albia and lived in Audubon, Iowa, prior to retirement.  They moved to Fontanelle in 1993.  Donald was a long-time member of the Fontanelle American Legion and a member of the Audubon V.F.W.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; brother, George Winter; and sister, Dorothy Freeman. 

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Carmen Buell and husband Larry of Urbandale, Iowa; two granddaughters, Tracy and Christina Buell; three nieces, Sandra Wyllie, Cynthia Sickles and husband David and Sharlene Murphy; nephew, Earl Winter and wife Eddie; other relatives and friends.
