Donna Jean Gantz was born in Greenfield, Iowa on September 27, 1940 to Arthur and Helen (Stowell) Hohertz and joined older sister Phyllis (Wyper). They moved to California shortly after Donna was born. Donna loved spending summers on her Uncle Don and Aunt Florence’s farm in Greenfield growing up. She especially loved driving the tractor which is believed to be where her love of driving began. She passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 83.
Donna met her husband Lowell Pratt in California and had two sons; Rick and Ron Pratt whom she adored. She raised the boys in California and moved to Oregon in 1981 after they were grown.
It was in Oregon where she met her husband, Ray Gantz. Together, Donna and Ray were partners in their work – first doing home construction and adding a Charter Vessel ‘The Old Coot’ fishing out of Depoe Bay. Donna’s younger son Ron came and worked alongside of them in the construction company.
Later in life when Ray became ill, he moved Donna back to Greenfield where she would be closer to her cousins she grew up with on the farm and continued to remain close.
It was moving back to Greenfield where Donna found her passion. It was Bus #8! She loved being a bus driver, loved the kids and her fellow bus drivers. It was her life and she thrived doing it. After a long illness beginning in December 2020, Donna was celebrated on April 23rd 2021 by the Bus Drivers of Nodaway School District. They drove to Fontanelle Health Center and presented her with flowers and honored her 20 plus years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond Gantz; and sister, Phyllis Wyper.
She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Madalyn) Pratt, and Ron Pratt; Step children, Michael Gantz, Gretchen Gantz, Douglas (Sue) Gantz, and Theresa (Tom) Robb and Grandchildren: Michelle and Brian Gantz, Rita Richeson, Christopher Garrett, Michael Garrett, Emily Doland and Will Kingery as well as Great Grandchildren – Kian and Korbin Gantz, Tim and Joe Richeson, Jackson, Courtland Garrett and Wyatt Harper, Rylee Ann Steiner, Colton and Clayton Kingery and Atlas Doland; and brother-in-law, Glenn Wyper. Donna Gantz remained close to her cousins and leaves behind many dear friends.
