Funeral Services: Will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Garner Cemetery, Bridgewater, Iowa. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service. The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements. 

Open Visitation: Will be held on Monday, January 27th, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Monday evening at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Evelyn Sickles Purdy memorial fund to be established by the family. 

Evelyn Mae Sickles Purdy was born February 20, 1930, the daughter of Augustus G and Helen Minnie (Sherley) Tickner in Adair County, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 89. On January 22, 2005 her brother passed away, you just wonder if she was waiting for that day to go be with him.

Evelyn grew up in Adair County and attended country school thru the 8th grade. On November 26, 1949, she was united in marriage to Carl Donald Sickles in Greenfield, Iowa. To this union ten children were born: Denny, Dale, Donnie, David, Judy, Doug, Joyce, Duane, Dallas and Dean. Carl passed away in 1975. Evelyn married Tom Glen Purdy on April 29, 1978, in Fontanelle, Iowa. Tom passed away in 1998.

Evelyn was a grandma, housewife and mother. She enjoyed reading, crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, solitaire, and especially being with grandkids and great grandkids. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother, Robert Tickner; sister-in-law, Janette Tickner; granddaughter Amber Sickles-Stewart; two daughters-in-law, Terri Sickles and Lisa Sickles; and great grandson, Aden Beaman.

She is survived by her children, Denny (Debra) Sickles, Dale Sickles, Donnie Sickles, David (Cindy) Sickles, Judy Sickles all of Fontanelle, Doug Sickles (Kathy Leander) of Lewis, Iowa, Joyce Nelson of Fontanelle, Duane Sickles of Oklahoma City, OK, Dallas (Sarah) Sickles and Dean Sickles (Denise Huddleson)of Fontanelle; 19 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
