Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Casey Fire Department in Casey, Iowa. Burial will be in the Dalalutha Cemetery, rural Casey, Iowa. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com. George Howard Peterson was born to Carl “Hook” and Alice (Kromrie) Peterson in Greenfield, Iowa, on February 8, 1954. He passed away on Friday, June 18, 2021, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 67.
George grew up in Casey and that was his home even when he was in Greenfield. He was united in marriage to Cheryl Chambers on May 15, 1999. George was a member of the Fire Department for 29 years. When he was growing up he did odd jobs, like make fence with his dad, took mom different places and when he was 16 years old he quit school to work for FS in Casey. He worked for FS for 23 years, then drove a truck for Crawford’s, then went to work for Agri-Grain, Black Top Service as a dump driver and then G-H Trucking until he retired. He loved tilling gardens, working on his tractor and really loved driving the 1926 Model T Coupe, he took care of it for 45 years. He loved grilling and was a very close friend to Cheryl’s brother, Mike, for a long time. George will be missed by a lot of people especially his wife.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Brian Chambers; great niece, Jewels Chambers; brothers-in-law, Dan Chambers and Daryl Chambers; sister-in-law, Diane Ernst; and mother and father-in-law, Zene and Margaret Chambers.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Peterson of Greenfield; brothers-in-law, David Chambers, Mike Ernst and Jim Ernst; sister-in-law, Marcella Ernst; other relatives and friends.
