Funeral Services: Will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at 11:30 a.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Jim Means will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. 

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, January 1, 2016, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Helen Means memorial fund to be established by the family. 

Helen Alberta Means was born April 19, 1918, the daughter of Frank Hayden and Clara Elizabeth (McKee) Edwards. She passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 97.

Helen attended school at Richland School and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1935. Helen was united in marriage to Kenneth Means in 1938. To this union six children were born: Larry, Jack, Jim, Ben, Mary Ann and Tim.

Helen was very active in the Baptist Church while living in Indianola, Iowa. She enjoyed cooking, especially making pies and wonderful raised donuts. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Helen was a fanatic Iowa Hawkeye fan, watching the basketball and football teams on TV. Pink was her favorite color, but the black and gold of the Hawks was ranked highly.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Means; son, Ben Means; granddaughter, Kimberly Breeden; grandsons, Douglas Means Curtis Means and Brandon Means; four brothers, Arthur, Glenn, Lawrence and Frank, Jr.; and sister, Nora Weber.

She is survived by her four sons, Larry Means and wife Elaine of Greenfield, Jack Means and wife Carolyn of Loveland, Colorado, Jim Means and wife Carol of Olathe, Kansas and Tim Means and wife Kari of Council Bluffs; daughter-in-law, Serena Means of Newton, Iowa; daughter, Mary Ann and friend J.R. Cornett of Indianola, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Jon Means and wife Dana of Urbandale, Angie Stravers and husband Greg of Altoona, Eric Means and wife Tamra of Des Moines, Robin Mullen and husband Ken of Olathe, KS, Shonda Serpan and husband Scott of Olathe, KS, Jennifer Hunt and husband Nick of Olathe, KS, Kaela Carmichael and husband Chad of Olathe, KS, Jason Means and wife Robin of Etowah, Tenn., Chad Means and wife Tammy of Kellogg, IA, Ryan Means and wife Nell of Decatur, Tenn., Angie Gettys and husband Gene of Harlan, Denise Williams and husband Bob of Newton, Matt Breeden and wife Lindsy of Indianola, Amye Shivers and husband Travis of Indianola, Mackenzie Means of Iowa City and Morgan Means of Orange City; 55 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
