James Levi Johnson was born on November 19, 1982, in Greenfield, Iowa, the son of Randy and Kris Johnson. James was welcomed home by older brothers Wes and Tom. James was later gifted with little sister Kim and little brother John Henry. He was welcomed into heaven on September 6th 2024, following a car accident outside of Mesa, Arizona.
James grew up in and around Fontanelle, Iowa; Morrill, Nebraska; and Greenfield, Iowa. He graduated from Nodaway Valley High School with the class of 2001. While in high school James cherished his time as a member of Coach B’s basketball team. The life lessons he learned on the court during games and in practices were never forgotten.
James attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in Finance in 2007. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration degree from Drake University in 2020. His education led him to a career in the insurance industry working for Farm Bureau Insurance and Employers Mutual Casualty Company. His profession allowed him to experience life in various locations across the United States, residing in Des Moines, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Ogden, Utah; and Mesa, Arizona.
James loved the climate and diversity of Mesa, choosing to establish roots there, purchasing a home in Mesa. He enjoyed having the mountains and snow a short drive away yet also having access to the sporting and cultural events in Phoenix. James volunteered at NCAA and WNBA events held in Phoenix and enjoyed countless mountain excursions with best friend and faithful companion Cy.
James is survived by parents Randy and Patty Johnson, Urbandale, Iowa and Kris and Landy Ogburn, Greenfield, Iowa. His siblings Wes and Catie Johnson, their daughter Stella, of Lisbon, Iowa; Tom and Carolyn Johnson of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Kim Johnson of Greenfield, Iowa; and John Henry Ogburn and Hope Deets of Ames, Iowa and his step-brothers Phil Mueller and daughter Ava of Urbandale, Iowa; Aaron and Rebecca Mueller and children Tirzah, Titus, and Monroe of Medford, Oregon; and Bobby and Valeri Mueller of Des Moines, Iowa. Additionally, he will be greatly missed by his very special friend, Raeschelle Wood, of Mesa, Arizona. He also leaves behind numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, classmates, and coworkers.
He was preceded in death by grandparents Earl and Bertha Johnson of Fontanelle, Iowa, Al and Mary Lou Mensing of Fontanelle, Iowa, and Dale and Gloria Ogburn of Colfax, Iowa along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends waiting for him to join them in heaven.
