Jesse Junior Hess, 78, of Greenfield

Funeral Services: Will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Greenfield Head-Endres American Legion Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357 and the Marines Funeral Honors.  A luncheon will follow the burial at the church.   Pastor Melinda Stonebraker will officiate the service.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.   Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

 

Open Visitation:  Will be held at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield.

 

Memorials: To the family to be established at a later date.

 

Jesse Junior Hess was born on March 8, 1946, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Jesse Carl and Viola Helen (Thompson) Hess.  He passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 78.
   

He grew up on a farm 3 1/2 miles east of Greenfield.  He started his schooling at Country School Lee #1 and finished in Greenfield with the class of 1965.
 

 He was drafted into the Marines Corp and served one tour of duty in Vietnam.  On returning to the states he lived a short time in California.  He then returned home to Greenfield.  His first love was farming.  He helped his dad on the farm.  He then became a chemical applicator when he and Bill Dodson owned and operated Greenfield Ag.  He then held a variety of jobs from farming to truck driving.
   

In 1970, he married Linda Seley.  To this union two children were born: Miles Jay and Laura Ann.  The marriage ended.  In 1989, he was united in marriage to Elaine Harris.
   

Junior was an avid horseman, loved trail rides and teaching his children to ride.  Junior was a loyal friend.  You could find him any afternoon having a beer with his friends and watching western movies.
   

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Richard; sister, Maxine; and brother, Bob.
 

He is survived by his wife of 33 years Elaine Hess; son, Miles Jay Hess (Eva); daughter, Laura Ann; stepsons, David Harris and Lynn Harris (Shelly); grandchildren, Maddison, Vegas, Ronyn, Mackenzie (Kylie) Samantha, Colby, and Eli; great granddaughter, Ava; sister, Betty Schultz; brother, John Hess (Pat); many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
