Jim Boes

Jim Boes, 68, of Adel (formerly of Greenfield) passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. 

Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the services at the church. Burial will follow the luncheon at the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield. Father Chinna Deveraj will officiate the service.  

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at the Christ Life Ministries (1900 N.W. 86th Street) in Clive, Iowa, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Prayer and Remembrance Service: Will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Christ Life Ministries (1900 N.W. 86th Street) in Clive, Iowa. 

Memorials: May be directed to the Christ Life Ministries or the St. Joseph Emergency Family Shelter. 

James Robert Boes was born November 28, 1951, the son of Cyril Joseph and Elsie Mary (Sanders) Boes in Carroll, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, January 31, 2020, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 68. In between this time, he lived a rich and full life based on the values of faith, family and farming.

Jim was raised in Carroll and graduated from Carroll Kuemper High School in 1970. He attended Southwestern Community College in Creston and then the University of Iowa and William Penn University. On June 7, 1980, he was united in marriage to Judith Rosslynn “Lynn” Manspeaker in Iowa City, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Katherine “Annie”, Ross and Nathan. Jim’s work life revolved around warehousing and agriculture, especially organic agriculture. He helped establish Heartland Organic Marketing Cooperative, and continued to work with organic farmers as he worked for Archer Daniels Midland in Indianola as a procurement manager. He lived in Cedar Rapids and Solon, Iowa and in 1983 moved to Greenfield and then in 2004 he and Lynn moved to their home in Adel, Iowa.

Jim was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee and was a Bible (Torah) Study Facilitator at Christ Life Ministries in Clive. He was a member of Adat Hatikvat Tzion in Omaha, Nebraska and made his last trip to Israel with this faith community. Jim enjoyed reading and studying God’s Word, gardening, construction projects, and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cyril and Elsie Boes; brother, Joseph Boes; and a number of aunts and uncles, especially Isabel and Leo “Lefty” Henrich.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Rosslynn “Lynn” Boes of Adel; daughter, Katherine Anne “Annie” Chojnacki and husband Joey of Adel; two sons, Ross Joseph Boes and fiancée Tiffany Delacroix of Dallas, Texas and Nathan James Boes and wife Molly of Madrid, Iowa; six grandchildren; ten siblings, Glen Boes (Marsha) of Escondido, CA, Carol Ricke (Larry) of Parkersburg, IA, Leroy Boes (Dee) of Carroll, IA, Allen Boes (Barb) of Clive, IA, Lynette Feld of Carroll, IA, Stephen Boes (Helen) of Winfield, Ill, Barbara Merryman (Neil) of Urbandale, IA, John “Jack” Boes (Becky) of Fontanelle, IA, Mary Downing (Rick) of Denver, CO and Lisa Sullivan (Todd) of Broken Arrow, OK; other relatives and friends.
