Kristina Lynn Schildberg went to Heaven on September 2, 2025, after saying goodbye to her family. Today we gather to celebrate the life of Kris. She was a woman whose compassion made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
Kris was born to Raymond “Boots” Yost and E. June Yost, on May 28, 1953 in Anchorage, Alaska before it was a state. She grew up in Nebraska City, NE and graduated from Nebraska City High School. Kris worked several years as a legal secretary and in banking progressing up to a Vice President position.
Kris found great joy and purpose in supporting the Iowa Aviation Museum, a passion she shared with her husband, Greg, to continue the legacy started by Greg’s parents. Aviation fascinated her~ not just the planes themselves, but the history, the stories and the people behind them. Kris tirelessly donated her time and energy to manage day-to-day operations to ensure the Iowa Aviation Museum was one of the best~and it is! She loved working at the museum and genuinely cared for the staff and visitors. Through her dedication, she helped preserve and celebrate a part of Iowa’s history that will continue to inspire generations.
A special part of her aviation journey was how it brought her and Greg together. After earning her pilot’s license~an accomplishment she was so proud of, she gave Greg a ride in her plane. So, it was from enjoying this “love” that she met the “love of her life!” That flight was the beginning of a partnership and love story. They were united in marriage on November 24, 1990. They greatly enjoyed their time together, including their numerous Disney trips and other travels.
Her passion extended beyond planes, too. One of the truest ways to describe her is through her love of animals. She had a gift for caring for those who couldn’t speak for themselves. Whether it was fostering stray animals, finding them safe and loving homes, or simply showing them kindness. She poured her heart into every creature that crossed her path. To her, no animal was ever just a stray~they were all worthy of love, comfort, and family. That was the kind of heart she had: one that made room for everyone.
But above all, Kris’s greatest love was her son. Walter (Joe) Sugden was her pride and joy. If you ever wanted to see her face light up, all you had to do was get her talking about her son. The love was endless, unconditional, and unwavering.
Kris was also very active in the Iowa Limestone Producers Association and Missouri Limestone Producers Association. Her dedication was recognized when she received The Extra Mile Award for her work with convention planning. She made sure all the spouses won prizes from the association, a testament to her hard work, passion, and impact on the field. She loved serving on the committees and making sure everyone had a good time. Kris built lasting friendships and contributed to a field she deeply respected. She thought of everyone as family.
Kris was a strong, kind, loving, generous, and compassionate person. She hid from the spotlight, but she was always there to provide love and support to friends, family and co-workers. There is a beautiful poem by Linda Ellis titled, “Dash,” which represents the line that separates the date a person is born until their death. The poem states that what matters most is how a person lives, loves and spends time between the dash. Kris lived fully and loved deeply in her life. She had a positive impact on many lives and will be greatly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory, include her husband, Greg Schildberg; her son, Walter (Joe) Sugden; her brothers and sisters and their spouses~Randy and Tammy Yost, Joni and Craig Davis, Mary and Curt Wurtele, Jeff and Lisa Yost, and Todd and Jill Yost; her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-laws and their spouses; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
