Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service. Pastor Kyle Fever will officiate the service.  

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Larry Buckner memorial fund to be established by the family. 

Larry Leon Buckner was born July 31, 1943, south of Bridgewater, Iowa, the son of George and Margaret (Knorr) Buckner. He passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at his home in Adair, Iowa, at the age of 75.

Larry was raised in Adair County and attended country school at Eureka No. 8 and then Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School. On February 25, 1963, he was united in marriage to Wanda Wyllie in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. To this union four children were born: Rick, Tammy, Joseph and Lynette. They lived most of their married lives in Adair.

Larry was a carpenter and had worked for Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for 12 years and then started his own business, retiring in 2004. From 2010 to 2016, Larry and Wanda were campground hosts at Lake Anita. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, casino trips, baby sitting Paisley “Miss P”, and loved family time. He especially loved watching his grandkids in their events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Cecil, Max and Terry Buckner; sister, Beth Barlow; nephew, Michael Eggert; and mother-in-law, Bertha Wyllie.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Buckner of Adair; four children, Rick Buckner (Julie), Tammy Zimmerline (Jim), Joseph Buckner, and Lynette Carney (Randy) all of Adair; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Buckner and wife Gloria of South English and Scott Buckner and wife Linda of Williamsburg; two sisters, Cindy Chafa and husband Mike of Stuart and Patty and Brenda Ingle of Runnells; two sisters-in-law, Linda Buckner of Des Moines and Ardith Buckner of Greenfield; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
