Larry Earl McCann was born on June 27, 1938, the son of Earl E. and Verlene B. (Sears) McCann in Adair County, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Lakeside Village in Panora, Iowa, at the age of 87.
Larry grew up in the Greenfield area and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. He served his country in the United States Army from 1956-1964. On July 3, 1958, he was united in marriage to Karon Kay Bochart. To this union five children were born: Ron, Steve, Deb, Denise and Bruce.
Larry took his family on MANY ventures due to his career changes from being in construction. He was a crane operator in New York and Des Moines and a heavy equipment mechanic working on skyscrapers. Larry also owned and operated Central Iowa Equipment where he sold Pak Rat Garbage trucks then to Davis Trenchers for ten years, where he taught his sons how to be great mechanics too.
Larry made time for his children taking them on vacations, camping, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling along with making sure all the kids had mini bikes to ride while getting together on all the get togethers with relatives.
After all his careers he moved back to Greenfield to farm and had his own dirt moving construction company and McCann semi hauling. He always made sure his family was taken care of, which was a great quality of his.
Larry loved to play cards, go dancing and especially enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren. Larry kept a happy way about things in his last years of life with a smile and his humor. He was a favorite amongst the Lakeside employees.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karon McCann; brother, Bud McCann; brothers-in-law, Wayne Bochart, Russell Lundy and Ron Wiggins; and grandson, Casey McCann.
He is survived by his children, Ron McCann (Chandra) of Greenfield, Steve McCann (Becky) of Panora, Deb Newton (David) of Greenfield, Denise Almobaied (Nedol) of Greenfield and Bruce McCann of Adair; brother, Mike McCann (Becky) of Oswego, Illinois; sister, Holly Lundy of Missouri; sisters-in-law, Bette McCann of Wiota and Nancy Wiggins of Johnston; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
