Funeral Service: Will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena with burial in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery north of Bridgewater. A luncheon will be held at the church following the services. Father James Ahnenkora will officiate the service.   

Open Visitation: Will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Thursday evening, February 7th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Scripture Service: Will be held on Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Memorials: Memorials may be directed the Lois Burg memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Lois Mae Burg was born on July 13, 1938, in Dolliver, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Myrtle (Sharar) Rienhardt, Sr. She passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019, at the Crest Haven Care Center in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 80. 

Lois was raised and attended school in Dolliver, Iowa. On March 2, 1957, she was united in marriage to Ronald Burg at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena. Five children were born to this union: Barbara, Helen, John, Jason and Mary.

After their wedding, Ron built his family a house north of Bridgewater. Lois worked as a certified nurse’s aide (CNA) for the Greenfield and Fontanelle nursing homes, respectively, for over 30 years. She helped educate many CNAs and also helped patients with their physical therapy needs. She loved to cook, bake, and go on car rides. She enjoyed picnics and card parties. She also helped Ron on the farm, went on many outings with her sisters, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her parenting advice to her kids, no matter the stage or struggle with their kids was always, "They'll grow up someday." She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Due to health issues, she moved to Creston in 2010. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald, who passed away in 2009; daughter, Barbara Smith, who passed away in 2006; three brothers, Eugene, Herman, Jr.,and Charles Rienhardt and two sisters, Pearl Smith and Betty Rienhardt. 

She is survived by her children, Marlo Smith of Bridgewater, Helen Tipling and husband Shawn of Fontanelle, John Burg and wife Kristi of Massena, Jason Burg and wife Nicky of Creston and Mary Woosley and husband Nathan of St. Charles; 13 grandchildren, Justin and Kelly Smith, Kelly Smith and John, Jesse Smith and Lise, Cristina and Sam McIntire, William and Stephanie Tipling, Brady Burg, Macy Burg, Kinsey Burg, Payton Burg, Colby Burg, Mason Woosley, Evan Woosley and Kaylin Woosley; 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Evelyn Rienhardt of Estherville, Rose Hansen and husband Jerry of Estherville and Karen Beitz and husband Larry of Fontanelle; 3 brothers, Robert Rienhardt and wife Bessie of Dunnell, Minnesota, Stanley Rienhardt of Estherville and Jerry Rienhardt of Estherville; sister-in-law, Laura Burg of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
