Graveside Services: Will be held at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery near Van Meter, Iowa, in the spring of 2026. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Michael Rogers Tonnberg was born on June 10, 1945, the son of Harold and June (Hawley) Tonnberg. He passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 80.
Michael graduated from Zion Benton Township High School in 1963. He was a United States war veteran During the Vietnam War in the United States Air Force as an S.P. He retired From Johns Manville and worked for Edgewood Apartments as a property manager. He was a security guard At Deluxe Video, making playlists for a local radio station in Kenosha, Wi., when he lived there. He was crafty and creative, made bird houses, wind chimes, flower arrangements, and wood crafts. He loved and collected music. He loved bowling and bowled a perfect 300 game. He was a devoted Cubs and Bears fan & college football but enjoyed watching almost any kind of sport. He was patriotic and loved the good ole USA. He enjoyed fishing, collecting cribbage, building and fixing things. He had his own unique style of dressing (tie dye and tassels) and was a whistler, genuine smile and laugh, fun and funny and helped people in need. He loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids and made friends with almost everyone he met. His personality made everyone love him. Every young person that knew him referred to him as “pops” and he will be sorely missed by everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Tonnberg Drew; and his ex-wife, Mary Cathy Tonnberg Norvell.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Gerber; brother, Greg Leech; his three children, Chris Tonnberg, Scott Tonnberg and wife Lisa and Rebecca Swift and husband Stephen; ten grandchildren, Darren, Dakota, Ethan, Janesa, Ari, Rainna, Ivy, Laif, Melody & Tyrus; four great grandchildren, Keegan, Jaxxen, Elise, & Kota; other relatives and friends.
Service will be held at a future date
