Myrna Grothen

Funeral Services: Will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. 

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, May 27th, from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, May 27th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: To the Myrna Grothen memorial fund to be established at a later date. 

Myrna Marie Grothen was born January 6, 1963, the daughter of Leo “Bill” and Donna (Flood) Grothen in Dexter, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 53.

Myrna was raised in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1981. She then attended Southwestern Community College, Northwest Missouri State University and Vatterott College, earning her Bachelor’s Degree. She lived in Greenfield most of her life until 1999, when she moved to Des Moines. She worked for Sernetts, Eatons and Wells Fargo in Des Moines. Myrna loved taking pictures, reading, crafts and especially being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Grothen; and her grandparents, Warren Flood and Hazel Flood and Gerhard and Ida Grothen.

She is survived by her mother, Donna Grothen of Murray; sister, Nancy Grothen of Murray; brother, Frank Grothen of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
