Memorials: To the Nola Antisdel Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Nola Rae (Bengard) Antisdel was born to John and Ora Bengard, the youngest of their three children. She attended country school in rural Exira and later graduated from Exira High School in 1955.
At just 16 years old, Nola was given the opportunity to spend the summer in Atlantic with friends, where she worked at an ice cream shop — a first taste of independence and hard work that set the tone for her life. After high school, she moved to Atlantic and began working at Walnut Grove. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Gary Antisdel, who was working at Brown Shoe Fit. The two were married on March 20, 1957, and went on to share 65 wonderful years together.
Nola and Gary were blessed with five children: Bill, Mike, Barry, Kim, and Cyndi. Nola dedicated many years to raising her children as a full-time homemaker, managing the joyful chaos of a busy household with grace and determination.
As her children got older Nola decided to attend Southwest Community College. She recieved her LPN nursing degree. She worked for Adair County Home Health, where her gentle spirit and dedication touched the lives of many until her retirement.
Nola was known and loved for her exceptional baking. Her homemade mints were a staple at every graduation, wedding, and shower for her children and grandchildren — lovingly described by one great-grandchild as “little bits of Heaven.” Her Christmas sugar cookies became a legend among neighbor kids and remain a cherished memory for many.
She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, playing games, and was especially skilled at cards. But her favorite pastime was a good game of Wahoo — a challenge she almost always won.
Nola was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband, Gary Antisdel; her son, Bill Antisdel; and her daughter, Kim Knapp.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, sons: Mike (Lori) Antisdel of Des Moines, Barry (Lisa) Antisdel of Anita, daughter Cyndi (Kevin) Ferguson of Atlantic. Son-in-law Phil Knapp of Walnut, Daughter-in-law Nancy Antisdel of Greenfield, sisters-in-law Sherry Kinney of Greenfield, Connie Swanson of Creston, and Daisy Antisdel of Bridgewater, Shirley Bengard of Missouri Valley, 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and 9 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, along with a wide circle of friends
Nola’s legacy is one of deep love, strong faith, unwavering family devotion, and unforgettable mints.
