Norma Ruth (Weller) Winders was born February 8th, 1927 to Bill and Lena Weller in Greenfield Iowa. She passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Norma would be the “Big Sister” to brother Dick and sister Nancy to complete the family of Bill and Lena. Norma was a life-long member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Greenfield. Bill and Lena provided plenty of guidance to assure that Norma had a good foundation for her life, plus her Grandparents on the Weller and Estes side reinforce those beliefs.

Norma completed her formal education all within the Greenfield School System, graduating from Greenfield High School in the class of 1945. During High School Norma clerked after school at Wiig’s five and dime and spent the Summer working at the Greenfield Community Pool.

Norma married Robert R. (Bob) Winders May 26th, 1945 at her Parents home. Bob was from Toledo, Iowa a Graduate of Iowa State and came to Greenfield to work as a Soil Conservationist. To this marriage, one son Gregory Alan was born in July of 1954, Gregory died shortly after his birth and is buried next to Bob in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Norma started her work career at the Adair County Offices in the Court House as a clerk, from there she ran the Selective Service (Draft Board) located in Greenfield. When the Military Draft was abolished she became the secretary and Assistant Manager at the Greenfield Manor and retired to spend her time with Bob and Babe, their Cocker Spaniel.

Norma and Bob enjoyed spending time with friends and family, cooking together and working in the yard where they always had several projects they were working on. The Winders household almost always had a Cocker Spaniel in residence that they both enjoyed doting on.

Norma was preceded in death by her son Gregory, husband Bob, parents Bill and Lena, brother Dick, his wife Mary, sister Nancy and her husband Pete.

She is survived by nephew Peter Hughes and his wife Jennifer and son Colin, niece Allyson all of California, and nephew Jeff Weller and his wife Jeanette of Oklahoma and their son and family, Jason & Kristy Hooe, Jack and Jared; other relatives and friends.
