Sylvia grew up in Jackson Township north of Fontanelle and completed the 8th grade at a little red schoolhouse, which still stands north of Fontanelle. On August 13, 1950, she was united in marriage to Leon Walter Cooper in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. They farmed north of Fontanelle until 1958 when they bought a farm south of Adair. There they raised five children, Becky, Ralph, Ivan, Bonny and David.

Sylvia loved her chickens and had raised laying hens, broilers and pullets. She had a large garden and helped on the farm. She loved to travel and in later years during their snowbird years they worked in Mesa Verde National Park and picked apples in Washington state. She enjoyed helping Leon in his handy man business throughout the years. Sylvia and Leon loved to dance and play cards. She was an aggressive aggravation player. She taught summer Bible school at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and had served as an officer for Farm Bureau Women’s Organization.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ralph, Henry, Louis, Bernard, and Virgil; sister, Wilma; husband, Leon; son, David; daughter, Becky Ingram; son-in-law, John Ingram; daughters-in-law, Penny Cooper and Lori Cooper; and grandson, Chad Leon Cooper; brothers and sisters-in-law; and a niece.
