Funeral Services: Friday, March 25, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery. 

Family Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening March 24th at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.

Open Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening, March 24th at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield.

Memorials: To the Fontanelle Library, Adair County Historical Society or to the family.

Velma Marie (Herr) Victora was born July 4, 1923 to Henry Martin and Edna Julia Augusta (Baudler) Herr in rural Fontanelle, Iowa. She was one of 10 children. Velma passed away March 20, 2011 at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa at the age of 87.

Velma attended country school in Adair County and graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1942. She received her normal training certificate before graduation. After graduation she taught in three one-room country schools, Eureka No.1, Eureka No. 8 and Jackson No. 6 for six years.

On September 10, 1948 Velma was united in marriage to Leonard L. Victora at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. To this union six children were born, Lawrence, Ernest, Gaylord, Theresa, June and Jane. They lived on a farm in Richland Township near Orient, Iowa. Leonard passed away in 1994. In 2004, Velma moved to Greenfield.

While living on the farm Velma worked side by side with her husband with all the outside chores. She loved to cook, read, type, had interests in antiques, genealogy, local history and especially loved spending time with her family.

Velma was a lifelong member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. She was baptized July 29, 1923 and confirmed May 16, 1937.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard in 1994; sisters, Violet May Herr in infancy and Pauline Bohling Mitchell; and brothers, Lee Paul Herr in infancy, Arnold, Wilfred, Elton, and Edgar Herr.

She is survived by her sons, Dr. Lawrence Victora and wife Sara of Atlantic, Ernest Victora and wife Nancy of Omaha, Nebraska and Gaylord Victora and wife Vicki of Webster City, Iowa; daughters, Theresa Proud and husband John of Urbandale, Iowa, twins, June Warren and husband Joe of White Bear Lake, Minnesota and Jane Scanlin and husband John of Chandler, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Susan and Joseph Victora, Jason and Heather (Victora) Deardorff, Adam, Matthew, Rachel (Proud) Perkins and LCpl Christian Proud and Jonathan Scanlin; three great grandchildren, Corbin and Connor Deardorff and Grace Perkins; two sisters, Verlene Archer and husband Dean of Orient and Mary Sherley and husband Dick of Massena; three sisters-in-law, Helen, Maxine and Dorothy Herr, other relatives and friends.
